A very promising new application has been developed with BioCAT granules for arsenic removal.
An industrial wastewater contaminated with > 2.000 µg/L of a complex arsenic pollution has been treated in a simulated flow-through reactor in our laboratories, resulting in arsenic removal efficacies of up to 97 % after only a few hours of hydraulic residence time. This means that BioCAT, next to reductive removal of many AOX compounds, also has potential in reductive treatment of complex inorganic waste streams containing heavy metals and metalloids such as arsenic.
Cost-saving granular bed applications based on BioCAT media look very promising, and first results indicate that the need for (frequent) replacements of costly reactants and ion exchange resins could be much limited through our technology.
Since its launch, BIOREM's innovative slow-release oxygen source OXYGEL has drawn a lot of attention. As the results from the first industrial reference cases are getting known, we are proud to present our readers with the following sites where OXYGEL has been successfully injected:
3. AXA (Cheron) (Braine-le-Comte, BELGIUM): 12/2011 - ongoing
4. AWWS (Antwerp, BELGIUM): 11/2011 - 11/2011
Reference cases 1, 2 and 3 concern oxygenation of hydrocarbon-contaminated aquifers. Refernce 4 concerns oxydation of anaerobic sludge of a pharmaceutical waste water treatment plant.
Biorem Engineering explains the unique working principle of BioCAT technology, for enhanced reductive dechlorination of persistent contaminants, in the 3D animation below. The technology has been proven to be effective for a.o. reductive degradation of chlorinated ethanes and ethenes, polychlorinated biphenyls, pharmaceuticals and pesticides. Applications can be found in the fields of in situ soil and sediment remediation, as well as water treatment. Different formulations are available, for more info on BioCAT: click here .
After winning the Gold Medal EEP Award 2008, Biorem Engineering has again been nominated for the EEP 2010 Award (Pollutec, Lyon). Out of a great number of applicants, we were selected for our in situ remediation technology portfolio and the Bio Float injection tool.
A delegation will present BIOREM and its innovative technologies on a trade mission to China from 24th- 31st of October. During this mission we will visit Peking, Wuhan and Shangai amongst other cities to introduce our knowhow to the Chinese government and industry, and stimulate future commercial contacts within the country.
