Feasability test

Microcosm tests are simulations at laboratory or small pilot-scale where the impact of different treatments on a polluted soil or sediment can be thoroughly and efficiently assessed.

Microcosm tests can be set up as soil column tests (e.g. for percolation experiments), or aerobically/anoxically conditioned flask tests containing small quantities of soil or sediment, typically in the order of several 100 grams to kilograms.

By incubating under different conditions, the effect of certain treatments on redox potential, pH, contaminant concentration and mobilization , etc. can be studied over a course of several weeks to several months in some cases.

Biorem Engineering offers microcosm tests as a service to its Customers, as a first and important stepstone in identifying the best in-situ solution. Due to our extended experience and technology platform, Biorem Engineering scientists can come up with the optimal approach for each site and these feasibility tests are used as a key for building out a full-scale in-situ strategy.
