Over the last 8 years, the focus of our Company Biorem Engineering has been on the development of an on-spot remediation technology for sediments contaminated with poly chlorinated biphenyls (PCB) and other persistent toxic chemicals. Early research and development existed through a collaborative partnership with international universities and research institutes, as well as industrial partners.
Through dedication and well-orchestrated product development, after several years a proven technology was developed for on-spot PCB degradation: the catalytic biocomposite BH90-sp0.5. This is an active formulation that, when injected into a sediment matrix, degrades the PCB through a combined action of biological catalysis (hydrogen release) and chemical degradation (hydrogen-catalyzed PCB degradation). For this formulation a European patent was filed in July 2009.
Consecutively, an engine was developed that could at the same time:
- Inject precise quantities of BH90-sp0.5 into a contaminated sediment
- Contain a certain stock of product
- Mix the product intimately with the sediment granules
- Be accurately positioned and controlled

This engine was developed in prototype in October 2009, tested and put in operation in November by Biorem Génie Civil sprl at which time a patent was filed to protect this promising injection methodology: BIO FLOAT was born!
